Usually the baby shower niche is all cuteness and sweetness with a healthy dose of celebrity gossip. Well not today. I was enjoying a quiet cup of coffee and checking out Google Trends and what pops up as a Breakout Google trend for a baby shower? Mermaids, Teddy Bears. Noooo. WEIRD BABY SHOWER CAKES. I quickly checked my notes. This has never happened before. At least during my professional lifetime.
I quickly googled the phrase. I would suggest that creepy is a better word for what came up. More suited to a Halloween baby shower than a Winter Baby Shower. In fact just yesterday the world was more normal. Valentine Baby Shower was the breakout niche. That made sense to me since people usually search and plan a few months before the date. Especially if they are going to order online.
I searched for “weird baby shower cake” on Pinterest and nothing showed up. Pinterest is usually my Go To search engine for all kinds of parties and celebrations. I decided to check out the rest of the Google Trends phrases and found it was just a strange day. No. 3 on the list was the very common and popular “when do you have a baby shower?” That is on the list almost every day. No. 4 was “worst baby shower cakes” and No. 5 was “bad baby shower cakes.” Those are not typical topics.
Google Trends doesn’t give the number or searches or anything like that. So it could be a smallish vocal cohort. Something to keep in the back of my head.
The remaining baby shower trends focused on celebrities such as Andy Cohen and the real housewives crowd. I checked out his cake and it was a very tasteful “a star is born” theme. Wow the dancing on the table and the salty language was crazy though. “Meghan Markle baby shower” is always being search on and is also pretty traditional.
Most of the weird cakes focused on some aspect of childbirth. Lots of strawberries. That is all I am going to say.
Sometimes a new movie or tv series creates a breakout interest on Google Trends. I didn’t find that today. My search was also for the US market during the last 24 hours. Once in awhile people in another country translate an English word incorrectly and that can cause odd trends.
Sometimes I will jump on a breakout trend and design a baby shower invitation suite and decorations immediately to get ahead of the crowd. That isn’t going to happen today.
